Facts about Roswell

The city of Roswell was founded in 1891. It was named after Roswell Smith, father of settler Van C. Smith. The railroad came through the same decade allowing the small mid-western town to thrive.

Roswell was brought to national attention in July 1947, when a rancher Mac Brazel reported to the town of Roswell that a UFO crashed on his ranch.
